No Law Targets Individuals; Highway Rules Are for Public Safety – Richard Odartey

The Northern Regional Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) Commander, Superintendent Richard Odartey, has defended ongoing regulatory measures and highway restrictions, insisting that the laws are not designed to target any particular individual or group.
According to Supt. Odartey, the primary objective of enforcing road traffic regulations is to protect lives and ensure the safety of all road users.
“No law is targeted at an individual; the law is for the safety of all persons,” he stated.
His comments come amid discussions surrounding regulatory compliance and the enforcement of restrictions on certain activities and vehicles along major highways.
Supt. Odartey emphasised that road users have a responsibility to comply with established regulations to help reduce risks and maintain order on the roads.
He said enforcement of the law should not be interpreted as an attempt to victimise individuals but rather as part of broader efforts to promote road safety and protect the public.
The Northern Regional MTTD Commander urged motorists and other road users to familiarise themselves with road traffic regulations and cooperate with law enforcement officers during enforcement exercises.
He stressed that compliance with the rules remains essential to creating safer roads for motorists, pedestrians and other road users.
The police position underscores the need for a balance between enforcement and public understanding, particularly as authorities continue discussions on highway restrictions and regulatory compliance.
Supt. Odartey’s remarks therefore serve as a reminder that road safety regulations are intended to safeguard the wider public rather than single out individuals.
