Carlos Queiroz gets GFA backing to stay as Black Stars coach

Carlos Queiroz’s future as Ghana coach now rests with the government after the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Council agreed that he should remain in charge of the Black Stars.
GFA Communications Director Henry Asante said the council had assessed Queiroz’s performance and backed his continuation, but stressed that the final decision lies beyond the football association.
“The council, which is the highest decision-making body, after assessing the performance of Coach Carlos Queiroz, has agreed that the coach should stay,” Mr Asante said.
“The final decision does not rest with the FA. It must go to the Ministry for them to review the contract and approve it, because they will be responsible for paying the coach’s salary.”
Asante said the terms of any proposed new deal between Queiroz and the GFA were not known to him.
“I don’t know what offer the FA has made to the coach or what counteroffer he is proposing,” he said.
The development means Queiroz’s continued tenure will depend on a review of his contract by the relevant ministry and approval of the financial arrangements.
The Portuguese coach was appointed to lead the Black Stars as the GFA seeks to stabilise the national team and improve its performances in upcoming competitions.
