Tamale Residents Benefit From MTN Free Medical Screening

Some residents in Tamale have benefited from a free medical screening exercise organised by MTN Ghana as part of activities marking this year’s Savannah Fest.

The screening followed a health walk through the principal streets of Tamale, which brought together residents and MTN Ghana staff to promote physical fitness and healthy living.

Participants received various medical checks, including eye screening, blood pressure, blood sugar levels and body mass index assessments.

Speaking to journalists, the Head of Sales at MTN Ghana, Mr. Richard Asamani said the health walk and screening formed part of activities lined up for the Savannah Fest celebration.

He said the high turnout for the health walk was encouraging and urged residents to exercise regularly to maintain good health.

“Today was the turn of the health walk, as you all saw, and the level of participation and the number of people that turned up was really encouraging. We encourage people to exercise a lot to ensure that they are keeping fit. A healthy mind lives in a healthy body,” Mr. Asamani said.

He explained that qualified health professionals were available to screen participants and offer advice on how to maintain good health.

Mr. Asamani said Savannah Fest was part of MTN Ghana’s efforts to celebrate the people and communities in which it operates.

He said the remaining activities in the Northern Region included a football gala, a clean-up exercise and a music concert dubbed DJ Afro Wave, scheduled for October 2 at the University for Development Studies campus.

The festival will end on October 10 with the finals of the soccer gala.

“We are continuing with the football gala. We also have the clean-up exercise coming up. Then we have the DJ Afro Wave, which will happen on the second at the UDS campus. It’s going to be a concert for us to be able to entertain ourselves and keep fresh with live DJs, performances and all of that. Then we’ll have the finals of the soccer gala, which is happening on the 10th of October. That will climax the Savannah Fest celebration in the Northern sector,” he said.

The Medical Team Head for the MTN Savannah Fest Health Screening, Dr. Daniel Opoku Gyamfi, said the exercise focused on key health checks, including blood sugar levels, blood pressure and eye pressure.

He said the team also helped participants who needed reading glasses and provided medication where necessary.

“So currently we are doing eye screening for everybody here. We are taking care of their vision, the eye pressure, and then for those who need reading glasses, we are helping them to get, and then people who need medication as well. We’re also on the other side checking for blood sugar, and then doing, what do we call it, checking their BP and other statistics, to help make everybody know whether they are healthy or not generally,” Dr. Gyamfi said.
