Ghanaian international marathon walker, King Klottey makes a stop at Tamale

A Ghanaian international marathon walker, King Klottey, who began a 22-day walk from Burkina Faso to Accra on September 17, 2026, has made a stop in the Northern Regional Capital, Tamale.

After 5 days of his marathon walk, King Klottey finally made it to Tamale, and is optimistic of reaching Accra soon. Queried if the goal is feasible, King said he “walks during the day and rest only at night and so I will be in Accra in 17 days’ time.”

The self-acclaimed ‘Ambassador for Water Bodies’, Mr. Klottey, seeks to create awareness and protect Ghana’s water bodies and further mobilize funds to support orphans, through both local and international marathon walks.

Tagged as the “Triumphant Marathon Walk”, Mr. Klottey’s mission is to walk on foot from Burkina Faso all the way to Accra in 22 days.

In an interview with Northciti News, Mr. Klottey said “I aim to raise funds for the YEHOWA-DA Foundation, to support orphans and the needy at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital.”

 Background

King Klottey is well-known in Ghana for taking on long-distance marathon walks for social causes.

In 2025, he undertook a ‘Peace and Clean-Water Walk” from Ivory Coast to Ghana. On March 6, 2026, he embarked on a similar walk from Togo to Accra.

In May this year, King walked from Accra to Kumasi.

Future Plans

King Klottey has revealed that “on March 6, 2027, I intend embarking on a walking marathon from Accra to the United Kingdom (UK).” He added that “the theme will be Ghana @70 Marathon Walk.”

Meanwhile King Klottey has hinted that a durbar awaits him in Accra, and prominent personalities including “the Greater Accra Regional Minister and the Mayor are expected to be present.”
