Five Arrested with Narcotics, Firearms in Police Operation At Tamale Aboabo

The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested five suspects in an operation at the Tamale Aboabo Scraps Area in the Tamale Metropolis. The operation was carried out on Monday, September 21, by the Regional Special Operations Team, known as RED MARIA, led by Chief Inspector Abu Issahaku.
The Police said the operation followed credible information about drug peddling, drug use and other criminal activities in the area.
According to the Police, the five suspects are Ibrahim Issahaku, 39; Mohamed John, 28; Mohamed Nawas, 25; Mohamed Osman Awal, 41; and Kwame Boateng, 28.
The Police said a search at the residence of Ibrahim Issahaku led to the recovery of two foreign-made pistols, two rounds of 9mm ammunition, a parcel of suspected Indian hemp and one thousand, eight hundred and eighty Ghana cedis.

The Police also recovered 18,825 Ghana cedis concealed inside a motorcycle belonging to Kwame Boateng. The money is suspected to be proceeds from the sale of narcotic drugs.
Other items recovered include 123 wraps of suspected Indian hemp, 12 sachets of Rohypnol, seven sachets of Tramadol, 111 wraps of suspected ashes and three motorbikes**.
The Police said Mohamed John and Mohamed Nawas are suspected drug users, while Kwame Boateng is suspected of dealing in drugs.
Mohamed Osman Awal, who was identified as the owner of the scrap business at the location, is also alleged to have been harbouring drug peddlers in the area.
The suspects and the exhibits have been handed over to the **Regional Drug Law Enforcement Unit** for further investigation and necessary action.
The Northern Regional Police Command in a statement disclosed that it will continue to carry out intelligence-led operations to fight illicit drug activities and other related crimes in the region.
