Ambariya Sunni Community Mourns Former Imam Sheikh Saeed Abubakar Zakaria

The Ambariya Sunni Community in Tamale is mourning the death of its former Imam, director and leader, Sheikh Saeed Abubakar Zakaria, who passed away in Accra.

The respected Islamic scholar was laid to rest at the Nyashigu Cemetery following funeral prayers attended by members of the Ambariya community, relatives, friends and other Muslims.

The community described his death as a major loss to his family, the Ambariya Sunni Community and the wider Muslim Ummah.

Former Vice-President and NPP flagbearer Dr Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia also paid tribute to the late Islamic scholar, describing him as a towering figure in Islamic scholarship who devoted his life to teaching, preaching and providing moral guidance.

Dr Bawumia said Sheikh Saeed played an important role in promoting knowledge and transforming Ambariya institutions into a centre of excellence. 

The Secretary of the Ambariya Community, Dr Mohammed Awal, described the late Sheikh as a visionary, courageous and trustworthy leader who served as the supreme leader of the community for more than 22 years.

He said Sheikh Saeed promoted unity, tolerance and peaceful coexistence among people of different backgrounds within the community.
