Musah Superior Steps Back From Competitive Npp Internal Contests

Former Tamale Metropolitan Chief Executive, Iddrisu Musah Superior, has announced that he will no longer contest competitive internal positions within the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Speaking on NorthCiti Breakfast Avenue earlier today, Mr. Musah Superior said the decision follows several unsuccessful attempts at winning elected positions within the party. He has previously contested the Tamale Central Parliamentary seat, where he increased his votes from 19,000 to 23,000 despite losing the election in 2012.
He also contested the NPP General Secretary position in 2022 and could only obtained 104 votes.
More recently, he contested the party’s 2024 parliamentary primary in the Mion Constituency, where he polled 132 votes against the incumbent’s 344 votes.
Following the many unsuccessful attempts to serve the NPP in positions that are competitive, the former Deputy Chief Executive of the Forestry Commission said he will no longer compete for positions in the NPP through an elective process.
“…I have decided that i am no longer going to do competitive elections, i will no longer take a job in the NPP through competitive elections. The only election i have won in the NPP was the Tamale Central primaries i contested while in London,” Mr. Superior stated.
Despite his decision to step away, Mr. Musah Superior said his commitment to the NPP remains strong after about three decades of active involvement in the party.
Mr. Musah Superior said his focus will now be on supporting the NPP and its political objectives.
He said this includes campaigning for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s flagbearer, and supporting efforts to increase the party’s representation in Parliament in the 2028 general elections.
