Ghana’s Producer Price Inflation rises to 4.0% in July – GSS

Ghana’s Producer inflation for July increased to 4.0% in July 2026, up from 3.5% in June, according to the latest Producer Price Index (PPI) released by the Ghana Statistical Service (GSS).

The figure represents a 0.5 percentage-point increase in the year-on-year producer inflation rate between June and July 2026.

The PPI, which measures the average change over time in prices received by domestic producers for goods and services, also recorded a 2.0% month-on-month increase in July.

The increase was driven largely by the industrial sector, excluding construction, where producer inflation rose to 5.6% in July from 3.3% in June.

The industrial producer price index also increased by 4.0% month-on-month between June and July.

Electricity and gas record highest sectoral inflation

Among the major sectors, Electricity and Gas recorded the highest year-on-year producer inflation at 13.3% in July, up from 12.5% in June.

Water supply, sewerage and waste management followed with 10.1%, while transportation and storage recorded 10.1%. Accommodation and food service activities recorded 9.9%.

The construction sector recorded producer inflation of 4.8%, a marginal decline from 4.9% in June, while services producer inflation stood at 2.5%.

Manufacturing prices rise

Within manufacturing, 15 of the 23 major groups recorded inflation above the sector’s average of 3.7% in July.

The manufacture of fabricated metal products, excluding machinery and equipment, recorded the highest inflation at 25.9%, followed by leather and related products at 17.4% and wood and wood products at 11.6%.

Among the key manufacturing activities, producer inflation stood at 8.8% for food products, 9.3% for furniture, and 8.5% for other machinery and equipment.

At the lower end, basic metals recorded inflation of -0.2%, while other non-metallic mineral products recorded -2.3%, indicating declines in producer prices for those activities.

Construction and services

Within construction, construction of utility projects recorded the highest year-on-year producer inflation among civil engineering activities at 21.7%.

Construction of buildings recorded inflation of 7.9%, while civil engineering overall and construction of roads and railways both recorded 3.5%.

In the services sector, producer inflation was 2.5% in July. Transport and storage recorded 10.1%, accommodation and food services 9.9%, while information and communication recorded 0.7%.

The GSS noted that the July 2026 PPI figures are provisional and may be revised as additional data becomes available.
