‘Kojo Fosu-Boadu’s NPP Vice Chair Victory Did Not Surprise Me’ – Musah Dankwa

The Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, Musah Dankwa says the election of Kojo Fosu-Boadu as First Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) did not come as a surprise to him.

He says although Fosu-Boadu was not initially among the leading contenders in his organisation’s polls ahead of the NPP National Delegates Conference, his support steadily increased as the election approached.

Speaking to NorthCiti News following the NPP’s National Delegates Conference in Kumasi over the weekend, Mr Dankwa said their successive polls showed a clear upward movement in Fosu-Boadu’s support.

“It didn’t surprise me because the first poll we did, the first one, he was at 27 percent. By the second poll, he and another candidate were around 17 percent. Then he stayed there for about two weeks. Something may have propelled him to the level of vote that he got.”

Mr Dankwa said their final poll placed Fosu-Boadu and another contender, Mr. Mustapha Hamid, on 37 percent each, indicating a highly competitive race.

According to him, the steady rise in Fosu-Boadu’s support, coupled with the closeness of the contest, suggested that the outcome could go either way.

“Anybody could have won that race. And it was clear that the person who was jumping from beginning of progress, week by week, was Kojo Boadu. So it wasn’t surprising to me, even though he was among the top four.”

Mr. Dankwa also explained that Global InfoAnalytics sought to understand what factors delegates considered important in choosing the party’s national executives, particularly in the chairmanship race.

The poll measured factors including party unity, discipline, grassroots support and personality.

He said about 45 percent of delegates cited unity as an important consideration, while 19 percent mentioned discipline, 18 percent grassroots support and another 18 percent personality.

Mr. Dankwa said the findings suggested that unity and grassroots appeal were among the most important considerations influencing delegates’ choices.

The NPP held its National Delegates Conference at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Saturday, where delegates elected new national executives to lead the party ahead of the 2028 general election.
